"Texas, Texas, Margaret"

Last words of General Sam Houston, Steamboat House, Huntsville, Texas

Framed Wall Hanging with a beautiful color picture of the Steamboat House.  Located on the campus of Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, this is the house that the famous General Houston passed at age 70.   At his side was his beloved wife, Margaret who heard his last words.  As he woke from a coma, he looked in her direction and said, "Texas, Texas, Margaret"  and then he was gone.  At this time in 1863, Texas had left the Union to join the Confederacy.  General Houston had warned that the Civil War was not in Texas' best interest and as he lay on his death bed, the two things he held the most dear to his heart were on his lips......   Texas and Margaret......

This item also has a rare First Day Cover with the famous Tom Lea stamp issued Jan 19, 1964.  Item is framed in a soft pine frame, stained, with a kelly green matt.
